Dependencies exist in every project and initiative. Between teams, initiatives, business units or even across products. Identifying and managing these dependencies is key in delivering the right stuff at the right time.
With airfocus dependencies, you can create multiple relationships between items to allow for improved collaboration and planning. By managing these risks early, you can be sure that everyone is clear on what needs to be done, who is doing what, and what needs to be finished. Dependencies allow you to link items by date and visualize them on your workspace and timeline roadmaps, providing full visibility of item relationships.
Types of dependencies
airfocus supports two types of dependencies:
- Blocked by: An item is blocked by another item and can/should only be started once the other one has been completed.
- Blocks: This is the the reverse to the "blocked by" option, so the item at hand actually blocks the other item.
How to create a dependency
There are two ways to create a dependency:
- Dependencies on the item detail modal
- Dependencies on the timeline view
On any item detail modal (1), click "Dependencies". Next, select "Blocks" or "Blocked by" to define the type of dependency. Lastly, select the item that you want to add.
You can set dependencies directly on your timeline view (2) by clicking the connector icon that appears when hovering over an item and then dragging to another item.
A single item can be dependent on multiple items and multiple items can be dependent on a single item. All dependencies are displayed on the respective item detail modal.
Dependency visualizations can be toggled ON and OFF by checking/un-checking "Show dependencies" from the "Menu" section in the timeline view.
